|If you are using vegetable tanned leather, you can heat the finished sheath to 180-200 degrees F, and dip in Lexol NF for about 5 seconds max. Take it out, wipe it, and put it in the dishrack, tip up, to drain for awhile. It will give you a golden tan. If it is chrome tanned leather, you would be better off dyeing it. I would still dip it after that anyway. It adds some life. Fiebings dye is the most popular, but some are using all kinds of concoctions, like walnut shells, vinegar that has had steel wool left in it, etc.
