I SERVED ABOARD THE SHAKORI THE YEAR WAS 1947 TO 1949
WE OPERATED IN THE CARRIBEAN OUT OF GITMO CUBA COMMANDING
OFFICER WAS LCDR R A WOODLIFF HE WAS A GOOD SKIPPER AT THAT
TIME WE TOWED TARGETS FOR FLEET TRAINING SHIPS WE ALSO PUT TO
SEA AND TOOK ERROL FLYNN IN TOW AS HIS SCHOONER WAS TAKING ON
WATER WE PUT PUMPS ABOARD TOWED HIM TO THE NAVAL BASE PUT HIM
IN THE DRYDOCKAND GOT HIM SQUARED AWAY WE ALL HAD LONG TALKS
WITH HIM HE WOULD TAKE A DRINK AND WE KEPT PLENTY OF RUM ABOARD
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE SHAKORI SAILORS JOIN NAFTS I ALSO SERVED
ABOARD THE PIAUTE ATF 159 HAVENT RUN IN TO ANYBODY FROM HER YET I
WAS A COOK ON THE SHAKORI WE PUT THE ICE CREAM MACHINE IN THE
COPPER PIT HAD TO MAKE ICE CREAK EVERY NITE FOR THE NEXT DAYS MEAL
